AbouttwoorthreedaysbeforeIwassetatliberty,asIwasentertainingthecourtwiththiskindoffeat,therearrivedanexpresstoinformhismajesty,thatsomeofhissubjects,ridingneartheplacewhereIwasfirsttakenup,hadseenagreatblacksubstancelyingonthearound,veryoddlyshaped,extendingitsedgesround,aswideashismajesty’sbedchamber,andrisingupinthemiddleashighasaman;thatitwasnolivingcreature,astheyatfirstapprehended,foritlayonthegrasswithoutmotion;andsomeofthemhadwalkedrounditseveraltimes;that,bymountinguponeachother’sshoulders,theyhadgottothetop,whichwasflatandeven,and,stampinguponit,theyfoundthatitwashollowwithin;thattheyhumblyconceiveditmightbesomethingbelongingtotheman-mountain;andifhismajestypleased,theywouldundertaketobringitwithonlyfivehorses.
