           DairymanCrickandhiswife,themilkmaidsTess,Marian,RettyPriddle,IzzHuett,andthemarriedonesfromthecottages;alsoMrClare,JonathanKail,oldDeborah,andtherest,stoodgazinghopelesslyatthechurn;andtheboywhokeptthehorsegoingoutsideputonmoon-likeeyestoshowhissenseofthesituation.Eventhemelancholyhorsehimselfseemedtolookinatthewindowininquiringdespairateachwalkround.
