           25October,Noon. Nonewsyetoftheship’sarrival. Mrs.Harker’shypnoticreportthismorningwasthesameasusual,soitispossiblethatwemaygetnewsatanymoment. Wemenareallinafeverofexcitement,exceptHarker,whoiscalm. Hishandsarecoldasice,andanhouragoIfoundhimwhettingtheedgeofthegreatGhoorkaknifewhichhenowalwayscarrieswithhim. ItwillbeabadlookoutfortheCountiftheedgeofthat"Kukri"evertoucheshisthroat,drivenbythatstern,ice-coldhand! 

           VanHelsingandIwerealittlealarmedaboutMrs.Harkertoday. Aboutnoonshegotintoasortoflethargywhichwedidnotlike. Althoughwekeptsilencetotheothers,wewereneitherofushappyaboutit. Shehadbeenrestlessallthemorning,sothatwewereatfirstgladtoknowthatshewassleeping. When,however,herhusbandmentionedcasuallythatshewassleepingsosoundlythathecouldnotwakeher,wewenttoherroomtoseeforourselves. Shewasbreathingnaturallyandlookedsowellandpeacefulthatweagreedthatthesleepwasbetterforherthananythingelse. Poorgirl,shehassomuchtoforgetthatitisnowonderthatsleep,ifitbringsobliviontoher,doeshergood.
