           Halloranncouldneverbesureoftheprogressionofthingsafterthat.Herememberedthattheelevatorhadgonedownandpastthemwithoutstopping,andsomethinghadbeeninside.Buthemadenoattempttotrytoseeinthroughthesmalldiamond-shapedwindow,becausewhatwasintheredidnotsoundhuman.Amomentlatertherewererunningfootstepsonthestairs.WendyTorranceatfirstshrankbackagainsthimandthenbegantostumbledownthemaincorridortothestairsasfastasshecould.
