           IthinkyouknowIdidn’tfindallthatoutduringonehotOctoberafternooninthesoon-to-be-defunctprisonlibrary,fromonesetofoldnewspapersstackedinapairofPomonaorangecrates,butIlearnedenoughtomakeithardformetosleepthatnight.Whenmywifegotupattwointhemorningandfoundmesittinginthekitchen,drinkingbuttermilkandsmokinghome-rolledBugler,sheaskedmewhatwaswrongandIliedtoherforoneofthefewtimesinthelongcourseofourmarriage.IsaidI’dhadanotherrun-inwithPercyWetmore.Ihad,ofcourse,butthatwasn’tthereasonshe’dfoundmesittinguplate.IwasusuallyabletoleavePercyattheoffice.
