           TheyhadonlygoneafewpaceswhenHermione’sbandy-leggedgingercat,Crookshanks,camepeltingoutofthegarden,bottle-brushtailheldhighintheair,chasingwhatlookedlikeamuddypotatoonlegs.Harryrecognizeditinstantlyasagnome.Barelytenincheshigh,itshornylittlefeetpatteredveryfastasitsprintedacrosstheyardanddivedheadlongintooneoftheWellingtonbootsthatlayscatteredaroundthedoor.HarrycouldhearthegnomegigglingmadlyasCrookshanksinsertedapawintotheboot,tryingtoreachit.Meanwhile,averyloudcrashingnoisewascomingfromtheothersideofthehouse.Thesourceofthecommotionwasrevealedastheyenteredthegarden,andsawthatBillandCharliebothhadtheirwandsout,andweremakingtwobatteredoldtablesflyhighabovethelawn,smashingintoeachother,eachattemptingtoknocktheother’soutoftheair.FredandGeorgewerecheering,Ginnywaslaughing,andHermionewashoveringnearthehedge,apparentlytornbetweenamusementandanxiety.

           Bill’stablecaughtCharlie’swithahugebangandknockedoneofitslegsoff.Therewasaclatterfromoverhead,andtheyalllookeduptoseePercy’sheadpokingoutofawindowonthesecondfloor.

           "Willyoukeepitdown?!"hebellowed.

           "Sorry,Perce,"saidBill,grinning."How’rethecauldronbottomscomingon?"

           "Verybadly,"saidPercypeevishly,andheslammedthewindowshut.
