           "Veryinterestedtoknowwherethislettercamefrom,hewas.That’swhyherangthedoorbell.Seemedtothinkitwasfunny."

           Harrydidn’tsayanything.OtherpeoplemightnotunderstandwhyUncleVernonwasmakingafussabouttoomanystamps,butHarryhadlivedwiththeDursleystoolongnottoknowhowtouchytheywereaboutanythingevenslightlyoutoftheordinary.Theirworstfearwasthatsomeonewouldfindoutthattheywereconnected(howeverdistantly)withpeoplelikeMrs.Weasley.

           UncleVernonwasstillglaringatHarry,whotriedtokeephisexpressionneutral.Ifhedidn’tdoorsayanythingstupid,hemightjustbeinforthetreatofalifetime.HewaitedforUncleVernontosaysomething,buthemerelycontinuedtoglare.Harrydecidedtobreakthesilence.

           "So-canIgothen?"heasked.

           AslightspasmcrossedUncleVernon’slargepurpleface.Themustachebristled.Harrythoughtheknewwhatwasgoingonbehindthemustache:afuriousbattleastwoofUncleVernon’smostfundamentalinstinctscameintoconflict.AllowingHarrytogowouldmakeHarryhappy,somethingUncleVernonhadstruggledagainstforthirteenyears.Ontheotherhand,allowingHarrytodisappeartotheWeasleys’fortherestofthesummerwouldgetridofhimtwoweeksearlierthananyonecouldhavehoped,andUncleVernonhatedhavingHarryinthehouse.Togivehimselfthinkingtime,itseemed,helookeddownatMrs.Weasley’sletteragain.

           "Whoisthiswoman?"hesaid,staringatthesignaturewithdistaste.

           "You’veseenher,"saidHarry.
