           “Yes,wearegoing,”repliedNicholasreluctantly,fortoday,asheintendedtohuntseriously,hedidnotwanttotakeNatáshaandPétya.“Wearegoing,butonlywolfhunting:itwouldbedullforyou.”

           “Youknowitismygreatestpleasure,”saidNatásha.“It’snotfair;youaregoingbyyourself,arehavingthehorsessaddledandsaidnothingtousaboutit.”

           “‘NobarrierbarsaRussian’spath’—we’llgo!”shoutedPétya.

           “Butyoucan’t.Mammasaidyoumustn’t,”saidNicholastoNatásha.

           “Yes,I’llgo.Ishallcertainlygo,”saidNatáshadecisively.“Daniel,tellthemtosaddleforus,andMichaelmustcomewithmydogs,”sheaddedtothehuntsman.

           ItseemedtoDanielirksomeandimpropertobeinaroomatall,buttohaveanythingtodowithayoungladyseemedtohimimpossible.Hecastdownhiseyesandhurriedoutasifitwerenoneofhisbusiness,carefulashewentnottoinflictanyaccidentalinjuryontheyounglady.
