           Casesfullofchina,bronzes,pictures,andmirrorsthathadbeensocarefullypackedthenightbeforenowlayabouttheyard,andstilltheywentonsearchingforandfindingpossibilitiesofunloadingthisorthatandlettingthewoundedhaveanotherandyetanothercart.

           “Wecantakefourmoremen,”saidthesteward.“Theycanhavemytrap,orelsewhatistobecomeofthem?”

           “Letthemhavemywardrobecart,”saidthecountess.“Dunyáshacangowithmeinthecarriage.”

           Theyunloadedthewardrobecartandsentittotakewoundedmenfromahousetwodoorsoff.Thewholehousehold,servantsincluded,wasbrightandanimated.Natáshawasinastateofrapturousexcitementsuchasshehadnotknownforalongtime.

           ThephaetonwasfullofpeopleandtherewasadoubtastowhereCountPetercouldsit.

           “Onthebox.You’llsitonthebox,won’tyou,Pétya?”criedNatásha.

           Sónyatoowasbusyallthistime,buttheaimofhereffortswasquitedifferentfromNatásha’s.Shewasputtingawaythethingsthathadtobeleftbehindandmakingalistofthemasthecountesswished,andshetriedtogetasmuchtakenawaywiththemaspossible.
