Ateleveno’clockthelocomotive’swhistleannouncedthattheywereapproachingPlumCreekstation.Mr.Foggrose,and,followedbyFix,wentoutupontheplatform.Passepartoutaccompaniedhim,carryingapairofrevolvers.Aoudaremainedinthecar,aspaleasdeath.
Thedoorofthenextcaropened,andColonelProctorappearedontheplatform,attendedbyaYankeeofhisownstampashissecond.Butjustasthecombatantswereabouttostepfromthetrain,theconductorhurriedup,andshouted,"Youcan’tgetoff,gentlemen!"

Thetrainstarted.
