Presentlytheytoowentupstairs.Theirroomswerejustoverhers.SheheardRogergointoTom’sroom.Theybegantalking,herwindowsandtheirswereopen,andsheheardtheirvoicesinanimatedconversation.Shewonderedwithexasperationwhattheyfoundtosaytooneanother.Shehadneverfoundeitherofthemverytalkative.AfterawhileMichael’svoiceinterruptedthem.
"Nowthen,youkids,yougotobed.Youcangoontalkingtomorrow."
Sheheardthemlaugh.
"Allright,daddy,"criedRoger.
"Apairofdamnedchatterboxes,that’swhatyouare."
SheheardRoger’svoiceagain.
"Well,goodnight,oldboy."
AndTom’sheartyanswer:"Solong,oldman."
"Idiots!"shesaidtoherselfcrossly.
NextmorningwhileshewashavingherbreakfastMichaelcameintoJulia’sroom.
