Afterafortnightofrehearsals,Michaelwasthrownoutofthepartforwhichhehadbeenengaged,andforthreeorfourweekswaslefttokickhisheelsabouttillsomethingelsecouldbefoundforhim.HeopenedinduecourseinaplaythatranlessthanamonthinNewYork.Itwassentontheroad;butlanguishedandwaswithdrawn.Afteranotherwaithewasgivenapartinacostumeplaywherehisgoodlooksshonetosuchadvantagethathisindifferentactingwaslittlenoticed,andinthishefinishedtheseason.Therewasnotalkofrenewinghiscontract.Indeedthemanagerwhohadengagedhimwascausticinhiscomments.
