           IfHarryhadnotseenDudley’slipsmove,hemightnothavebelievedit.Asitwas,hestaredatDudleyforseveralsecondsbeforeacceptingthatitmusthavebeenhiscousinwhohadspoken;foronething,Dudleyhadturnedred.Harrywasembarrassedandastonishedhimself.

           Helookedcuriouslyathiscousin.Theyhadhadvirtuallynocontactduringthissummerorlast,asHarryhadcomebacktoPrivetDrivesobrieflyandkepttohisroomsomuch.ItnowdawnedonHarry,however,thatthecupofcoldteaonwhichhehadtroddenthatmorningmightnothavebeenaboobytrapatall.AlthoughrathertouchedhewasneverthelessquiterelievedthatDudleyappearedtohaveexhaustedhisabilitytoexpresshisfeelings.Afteropeninghismouthonceortwicemore,Dudleysubsidedintoscarlet-facedsilence.

           AuntPetuniaburstintotears.HestiaJonesgaveheranapprovinglookthatchangedtooutrageasAuntPetuniaranforwardandembracedDudleyratherthanHarry.
