           Hegaveashortblastonhiswhistle,andHarryandCedrichurriedforwardintothemaze.

           Thetoweringhedgescastblackshadowsacrossthepath,and,whetherbecausetheyweresotallandthickorbecausetheyhadbeenenchanted,thesoundofthesurroundingcrowdwassilencedthemomenttheyenteredthemaze.Harryfeltalmostasthoughhewereunderwateragain.Hepulledouthiswand,muttered,"Lumos,"andheardCedricdothesamejustbehindhim.

           Afteraboutfiftyyards,theyreachedafork.Theylookedateachother.

           "Seeyou,"Harrysaid,andhetooktheleftone,whileCedrictooktheright.

           HarryheardBagman’swhistleforthesecondtime.Krumhadenteredthemaze.Harryspedup.Hischosenpathseemedcompletelydeserted.Heturnedright,andhurriedon,holdinghiswandhighoverhishead,tryingtoseeasfaraheadaspossible.Still,therewasnothinginsight.

           Bagman’swhistleblewinthedistanceforthethirdtime.Allofthechampionswerenowinside.

           Harrykeptlookingbehindhim.Theoldfeelingthathewasbeingwatchedwasuponhim.Themazewasgrowingdarkerwitheverypassingminuteastheskyoverheaddeepenedtonavy.Hereachedasecondfork.

           "PointMe,"hewhisperedtohiswand,holdingitflatinhispalm.

           Thewandspunaroundonceandpointedtowardhisright,intosolidhedge.Thatwaywasnorth,andheknewthatheneededtogonorthwestforthecenterofthemaze.Thebesthecoulddowastotaketheleftforkandgorightagainassoonaspossible.
