           BymeansofhismagictheWizardcreatedthreetents,pitchedinarowonthegrassandnicelyfittedwithallthatwasneedfulforthecomfortofhiscomrades.ThemiddletentwasforDorothyandTrot,andhadinittwocosywhitebedsandtwochairs.Anothertent,alsowithbedsandchairs,wasfortheWizardandCap’nBill,whilethethirdtentwasfortheHungryTiger,theCowardlyLion,thecageofMonkeysandtheGlassCat.OutsidethetentstheWizardmadeafireandplacedoveritamagickettlefromwhichhepresentlydrewallsortsofnicethingsfortheirsupper,smokinghot.

           Aftertheyhadeatenandtalkedtogetherforawhileunderthetwinklingstars,theyallwenttobedandthepeopleweresoonasleep.TheLionandtheTigerhadalmostfallenasleep,too,whentheywererousedbythescreamsofthemonkeys,fortheGlassCatwaspullingtheirtailsagain.Annoyedbytheuproar,theHungryTigercried:"Stopthatracket!"andgettingsightoftheGlassCat,heraisedhisbigpawandstruckatthecreature.Thecatwasquickenoughtododgetheblow,buttheclawsoftheHungryTigerscrapedthemonkey’scageandbenttwoofthebars.

           ThentheTigerlaydownagaintosleep,butthemonkeyssoondiscoveredthatthebendingofthebarswouldallowthemtosqueezethrough.Theydidnotleavethecage,however,butafterwhisperingtogethertheylettheirtailsstickoutandallremainedquiet.PresentlytheGlassCatstolenearthecageagainandgaveayanktooneofthetails.
