RuggedotheNomewavedhisarmsandflutteredhiswingstotrytomakethemlistentohimagain,butthebeastspaidnoattention.SomewantedtofighttheOzpeople,somewantedtobetransformed,andsomewantedtodonothingatall.
Thegrowlingandconfusionhadgrowngreaterthaneverwheninaflashsilencefellonallthebeastspresent,theargumentswerehushed,andallgazedinastonishmentatastrangesight.
ForintothecirclestrodeagreatLion—biggerandmorepowerfulthananyotherlionthere—andonhisbackrodealittlegirlwhosmiledfearlesslyatthemultitudeofbeasts.AndbehindtheLionandthelittlegirlcameanotherbeast—amonstrousTiger,whoboreuponhisbackafunnylittlemancarryingablackbag.Rightpasttherowsofwonderingbeaststhestrangeanimalswalked,advancinguntiltheystoodjustbeforetherockthroneofGugu.
Thenthelittlegirlandthefunnylittlemandismounted,andthegreatLiondemandedinaloudvoice:
"WhoisKinginthisforest?"
"Iam!"answeredGugu,lookingsteadilyattheother."IamGugutheLeopard,andIamKingofthisforest."
