           Ihadatheartastrangeandanxiousthought. SomethinghadhappenedwhichIcouldnotcomprehend;nooneknewoforhadseentheeventbutmyself:ithadtakenplacetheprecedingnight. Mr.Rochesterthatnightwasabsentfromhome;norwasheyetreturned:businesshadcalledhimtoasmallestateoftwoorthreefarmshepossessedthirtymilesoffbusinessitwasrequisiteheshouldsettleinperson,previoustohismeditateddeparturefromEngland. Iwaitednowhisreturn;eagertodisburthenmymind,andtoseekofhimthesolutionoftheenigmathatperplexedme. Staytillhecomes,reader;and,whenIdisclosemysecrettohim,youshallsharetheconfidence. 

           Isoughttheorchard,driventoitsshelterbythewind,whichalldayhadblownstrongandfullfromthesouth,without,however,bringingaspeckofrain.
