           AsIroseanddressed,Ithoughtoverwhathadhappened,andwonderedifitwereadream. IcouldnotbecertainoftherealitytillIhadseenMr.Rochesteragain,andheardhimrenewhiswordsofloveandpromise. 

           Whilearrangingmyhair,Ilookedatmyfaceintheglass,andfeltitwasnolongerplain:therewashopeinitsaspectandlifeinitscolour;andmyeyesseemedasiftheyhadbeheldthefountoffruition,andborrowedbeamsfromthelustrousripple. Ihadoftenbeenunwillingtolookatmymaster,becauseIfearedhecouldnotbepleasedatmylook; butIwassureImightliftmyfacetohisnow,andnotcoolhisaffectionbyitsexpression. Itookaplainbutcleanandlightsummerdressfrommydrawerandputiton: itseemednoattirehadeversowellbecomeme,becausenonehadIeverworninsoblissfulamood. 

           Iwasnotsurprised,whenIrandownintothehall,toseethatabrilliantJunemorninghadsucceededtothetempestofthenight;andtofeel,throughtheopenglassdoor,thebreathingofafreshandfragrantbreeze. NaturemustbegladsomewhenIwassohappy. Abeggar-womanandherlittleboypale,raggedobjectsbothwerecomingupthewalk,andIrandownandgavethemallthemoneyIhappenedtohaveinmypursesomethreeorfourshillings: goodorbad,theymustpartakeofmyjubilee. Therookscawed,andblitherbirdssang;butnothingwassomerryorsomusicalasmyownrejoicingheart.
