ThesenseofexhilarationthatusuallyseemedtopossessEdwardasheranwascompletelyabsent,replacedbyafurythatconsumedhimanddrovehimstillfaster.Evenwithmeonhisback,theotherstrailedbehind.
WereachedtheJeepinanimpossiblyshorttime,andEdwardbarelyslowedasheflungmeinthebackseat.
"Strapherin,"heorderedEmmett,whoslidinbesideme.
Alicewasalreadyinthefrontseat,andEdwardwasstartingtheengine.Itroaredtolifeandweswervedbackward,spinningaroundtofacethewindingroad.
Edwardwasgrowlingsomethingtoofastformetounderstand,butitsoundedalotlikeastringofprofanities.
Thejoltingtripwasmuchworsethistime,andthedarknessonlymadeitmorefrightening.EmmettandAlicebothglaredoutthesidewindows.
Wehitthemainroad,andthoughourspeedincreased,Icouldseemuchbetterwhereweweregoing.Andwewereheadedsouth,awayfromForks.
"Wherearewegoing?"Iasked.
Nooneanswered.Nooneevenlookedatme.
"Dammit,Edward!Whereareyoutakingme?"
"Wehavetogetyouawayfromhere-faraway-now."Hedidn’tlookback,hiseyesontheroad.Thespeedometerreadahundredandfivemilesanhour.
"Turnaround!Youhavetotakemehome!"Ishouted.Istruggledwiththestupidharness,tearingatthestraps.
"Emmett,"Edwardsaidgrimly.
AndEmmettsecuredmyhandsinhissteelygrasp.
"No!Edward!No,youcan’tdothis."
