Myeyesopenedtoabright,whitelight.Iwasinanunfamiliarroom,awhiteroom.Thewallbesidemewascoveredinlongverticalblinds;overmyhead,theglaringlightsblindedme.Iwasproppeduponahard,unevenbed-abedwithrails.Thepillowswereflatandlumpy.Therewasanannoyingbeepingsoundsomewherecloseby.IhopedthatmeantIwasstillalive.Deathshouldn’tbethisuncomfortable.
Myhandswerealltwistedupwithcleartubes,andsomethingwastaped
acrossmyface,undermynose.Iliftedmyhandtoripitoff.
"No,youdon’t."Andcoolfingerscaughtmyhand.
