"ItoldyouIwascoming,"Iremindedhim.
"We’rejustwaitingforLeeandSamantha...unlessyouinvitedsomeone,"Mikeadded.
"Nope,"Iliedlightly,hopingIwouldn’tgetcaughtinthelie.Butalsowishingthatamiraclewouldoccur,andEdwardwouldappear.
Mikelookedsatisfied.
"Willyourideinmycar?It’sthatorLee’smom’sminivan."
"Sure."
Hesmiledblissfully.ItwassoeasytomakeMikehappy.
"Youcanhaveshotgun,"hepromised.Ihidmychagrin.Itwasn’tassimpletomakeMikeandJessicahappyatthesametime.IcouldseeJessicagloweringatusnow.
Thenumbersworkedoutinmyfavor,though.Leebroughttwoextrapeople,andsuddenlyeveryseatwasnecessary.ImanagedtowedgeJessinbetweenMikeandmeinthefrontseatoftheSuburban.Mikecouldhavebeenmoregracefulaboutit,butatleastJessseemedappeased.
ItwasonlyfifteenmilestoLaPushfromForks,withgorgeous,densegreenforestsedgingtheroadmostofthewayandthewideQuillayuteRiversnakingbeneathittwice.IwasgladIhadthewindowseat.We’drolledthewindowsdown-theSuburbanwasabitclaustrophobicwithninepeopleinit-andItriedtoabsorbasmuchsunlightaspossible.
