           Theyhadmovedintothathousetwoyearsbefore,andheknew,andJuliaknew,thattheyhadputitintothehandsofanexpensivedecoratorwhentheyweregoingontour,andhehadagreedtohaveitcompletelyreadyforthem,atcostpriceinreturnfortheworktheypromisedhiminthetheatre,bythetimetheycameback.Butitwasunnecessarytoimpartsuchtediousdetailstoayoungmanwhosenameeventheydidnotknow.Thehousewasfurnishedinextremelygoodtaste,withajudiciousmixtureoftheantiqueandthemodern,andMichaelwasrightwhenhesaidthatitwasquiteobviouslyagentleman’shouse.Julia,however,hadinsistedthatshemusthaveherbedroomassheliked,andhavinghadexactlythebedroomthatpleasedherintheoldhouseinRegent’sParkwhichtheyhadoccupiedsincetheendofthewarshebroughtitoverbodily.
