Harrycontinuedupthestairsuntilhereachedthetopmostlanding,wheretherewereonlytwodoors.TheonefacinghimboreanameplatereadingSIRIUS.Harryhadneverenteredhisgodfather’sbedroombefore.Hepushedopenthedoor,holdinghiswandhightocastlightaswidelyaspossible.Theroomwasspaciousandmustoncehavebeenhandsome.Therewasalargebedwithacarvedwoodenheadboard,atallwindowobscuredbylongvelvetcurtains,andachandelierthicklycoatedindustwithcandlestubsstillrestinginitssockets,solidwaxhanginginfrostlikedrips.Afinefilmofdustcoveredthepicturesonthewallsandthebed’sheadboard;aspider’swebstretchedbetweenthechandelierandthetopofthelargewoodenwardrobe,andasHarrymoveddeeperintotheroom,heheardascurryingofdisturbedmice.
TheteenageSiriushadplasteredthewallswithsomanypostersandpicturesthatlittleofthewalls’silvery-graysilkwasvisible.HarrycouldonlyassumethatSirius’sparentshadbeenunabletoremovethePermanentStickingCharmthatkeptthemonthewall,becausehewassuretheywouldnothaveappreciatedtheireldestson’stasteindecoration.Siriusseemedtohavegoneoutofhiswaytoannoyhisparents.TherewereseverallargeGryffindorbanners,fadedscarletandgold,justtounderlinehisdifferencefromalltherestoftheSlytherinfamily.
