           Iwastobemetbythepoet,WilliamKeesing,whoIhadbeencorrespondingwithsince1966.IhadfirstseenhisworkinthepagesofBull,editedbyDougFazzick,oneofthefirstmimeomagsandprobablytheleaderinthemimeorevolution.Noneofuswereliteraryinthepropersense:Fazzickworkedinarubberplant,Keesingwasanex-MarineoutofKoreawhohaddonetimeandwassupportedbyhiswife,Cecelia.Iwasworking11hoursanightasapostalclerk.ThatwasalsothetimewhenMarvinarrivedonthescenewithhisstrangepoemsaboutdemons.MarvinWoodmanwasthebestdamneddemon-writerinAmerica.MaybeinSpainandPerutoo.Iwasintowritinglettersatthetime.Iwrote4and5pageletterstoeverybody,coloringtheenvelopesandpageswildlywithcrayons.That’swhenIbeganwritingWilliamKeesing,ex-Marine,ex-con,drugaddict(hewasmostlyintocodeine).

           Now,yearslater,WilliamKeesinghadsecuredatemporaryteachingjobattheUniversity.Hehadmanagedtopickupadegreeortwobetweendrugbusts.Iwarnedhimthatitwasadangerousjobforanybodywhowantedtowrite.ButatleasthetaughthisclassplentyofChinaski.
