           TheseweretheIndian’slastwords,dyingawayonthebreeze,astheboatrecededgraduallyfromtheshore.Foralongtime,hisdark,motionlessSILHOUETTEstoodoutagainstthesky,throughthewhite,dashingsprayofthewaves.Thenbydegreeshistallformbegantodiminishinsize,tillatlasthisfriendsofadaylostsightofhimaltogether.

           AnhourafterwardRobertwasthefirsttoleaponboardtheDuncan.HeflunghisarmsroundMary’sneck,amidtheloud,joyoushurrahsofthecrewontheyacht.

           ThusthejourneyacrossSouthAmericawasaccomplished,thegivenlineofmarchbeingscrupulouslyadheredtothroughout.

           Neithermountainsnorrivershadmadethetravelerschangetheircourse;andthoughtheyhadnothadtoencounteranyill-willfrommen,theirgenerousintrepidityhadbeenoftenenoughroughlyputtotheproofbythefuryoftheunchainedelements.
