An Accident

           Amagnificentplain,thicklycoveredwithchrysanthemums,stretchedoutbeyondthelake,andGlenarvanandhisfriendswouldgladlyhaveexploreditsbeautieswhentheyawokenextmorning,buttheyhadtostart.Asfarastheeyecouldreach,nothingwasvisiblebutonestretchofprairie,enameledwithflower,inallthefreshnessandabundanceofspring.Theblueflowersoftheslender-leavedflax,combinedwiththebrighthuesofthescarletacanthus,aflowerpeculiartothecountry.

           Afewcassowarieswereboundingovertheplain,butitwasimpossibletogetnearthem.
