           TheCaptain,withahalf-guiltysecrettoconfess,andwiththeprospectofapainfulandstormyinterviewbeforehim,enteredMr.Osborne’sofficeswithamostdismalcountenanceandabashedgait,and,passingthroughtheouterroomwhereMr.Chopperpresided,wasgreetedbythatfunctionaryfromhisdeskwithawaggishairwhichfartherdiscomfitedhim.Mr.Chopperwinkedandnoddedandpointedhispentowardshispatron’sdoor,andsaid,"You’llfindthegovernorallright,"withthemostprovokinggoodhumour.

           Osbornerosetoo,andshookhimheartilybythehand,andsaid,"Howdo,mydearboy?"withacordialitythatmadepoorGeorge’sambassadorfeeldoublyguilty.
