Wilburwatchedhimdisappearintohistunnel.Inamomenthesawtherat’ssharpnosepokeoutfromunderneaththewoodentrough.CautiouslyTempletonpulledhimselfupovertheedgeofthetrough.ThiswasalmostmorethanWilburcouldstand:onthisdreary,rainydaytoseehisbreakfastbeingeatenbysomebodyelse.HeknewTempletonwasgettingsoaked,outthereinthepouringrain,buteventhatdidn’tcomforthim.Friendless,dejected,andhungry,hethrewhimselfdowninthemanureandsobbed.
