Shroudedindarkness,Christiansitsinabubbleoflightasheplays,andhishairglintswithburnishedcopperhighlights.Helooksnaked,thoughIknowhe’swearinghisPJbottoms.He’sconcentrating,playingbeautifully,lostinthemelancholyofthemusic.Ihesitate,watchingfromtheshadows,notwantingtointerrupthim.Iwanttoholdhim.Helookslost,sadeven,andachinglylonely—ormaybeit’sjustthemusicthat’ssofullofpoignantsorrow.Hefinishesthepiece,pausesforasplitsecond,thenstartstoplayitagain.Imovecautiouslytowardhim,drawnasthemothtotheflame…theideamakesmesmile.Heglancesupatmeandfrownsbeforehisgazereturnstohishands.
