Tobehappyweneedsomethingtosolve.Happinessisthereforeaformofaction;it’sanactivity,notsomethingthatispassivelybestoweduponyou,notsomethingthatyoumagicallydiscoverinatop-tenarticleontheHuffingtonPostorfromanyspecificguruorteacher.Itdoesn’tmagicallyappearwhenyoufinallymakeenoughmoneytoaddonthatextraroomtothehouse.Youdon’tfinditwaitingforyouinaplace,anidea,ajob—orevenabook,forthatmatter.
Happinessisaconstantwork-in-progress,becausesolvingproblemsisaconstantwork-in-progress—thesolutionstotoday’sproblemswilllaythefoundationfortomorrow’sproblems,andsoon.Truehappinessoccursonlywhenyoufindtheproblemsyouenjoyhavingandenjoysolving.
Sometimesthoseproblemsaresimple:eatinggoodfood,travelingtosomenewplace,winningatthenewvideogameyoujustbought.Othertimesthoseproblemsareabstractandcomplicated:fixingyourrelationshipwithyourmother,findingacareeryoucanfeelgoodabout,developingbetterfriendships.
Whateveryourproblemsare,theconceptisthesame:solveproblems;behappy.
