AndIhopethatwillcontinuetobethecasefortherestofmylife.
JustasPresentMarkcanlookbackonPastMark’severyflawandmistake,onedayFutureMarkwilllookbackonPresentMark’sassumptions(includingthecontentsofthisbook)andnoticesimilarflaws.Andthatwillbeagoodthing.BecausethatwillmeanIhavegrown.
There’safamousMichaelJordanquoteabouthimfailingoverandoverandoveragain,andthat’swhyhesucceeded.Well,I’malwayswrongabouteverything,overandoverandoveragain,andthat’swhymylifeimproves.
Growthisanendlesslyiterativeprocess.Whenwelearnsomethingnew,wedon’tgofrom“wrong”to“right.”Rather,wegofromwrongtoslightlylesswrong.Andwhenwelearnsomethingadditional,wegofromslightlylesswrongtoslightlylesswrongthanthat,andthentoevenlesswrongthanthat,andsoon.Wearealwaysintheprocessofapproachingtruthandperfectionwithoutactuallyeverreachingtruthorperfection.
Weshouldn’tseektofindtheultimate“right”answerforourselves,butrather,weshouldseektochipawayatthewaysthatwe’rewrongtodaysothatwecanbealittlelesswrongtomorrow.
