           OnThursdayshewasabletogotosleepafterplayingchessinhermindforanhourorso,andshesavedtheday’stwopills.ShedidthesamethingonFriday.AlldaySaturday,doingherworkinthecafeteriakitchenandintheafternoonduringtheChristianmovieinthelibraryandthePersonalImprovementTalkbeforedinner,shecouldfeelalittleglowwhenevershewantedto,knowingthatshehadsixpillsinhertoothbrushholder.

           Thatnight,afterlightsout,shetookthemall,onebyone,andwaited.Thefeeling,whenitcame,wasdelicious—akindofeasysweetnessinherbellyandalooseninginthetightpartsofherbody.Shekeptherselfawakeaslongasshecouldtoenjoythewarmthinsideher,thedeepchemicalhappiness.
