           Alice’seyeswereconfused,but-Isawtomyrelief-notsuspicious.Shemustbeattributingthechangeinhervisiontosomemaneuverofthetracker’sratherthanabetrayalbyme.

           Jasperwalkedsilentlybesideme,hishandonthesmallofmyback,asifhewereguidingme.Ipretendedalackofinterestinthefirstfewairportcafes,myheadscanningforwhatIreallywanted.Andthereitwas,aroundthecorner,outofAlice’ssharpsight:thelevel-threeladies’room.

           "Doyoumind?"IaskedJasperaswepassed."I’lljustbeamoment."

           AssoonasthedooropenedIwasoffagain,tothesoundofannoyedmurmursbehindme.IslowedmyselfasIpassedthesecurityguardsbytheluggagecarousels,onlytobreakintoarunagainastheexitdoorscameintoview.
