Dr.HaroldT.Brown,psychiatristanddirector,firstsawBillyMilliganonMarch6,1970.Brown,aslightmanwithgraymuttonchopsandarecedingchin,gazedattheboythroughblack-rimmedglasses.Hesawaneat-looking,slenderfifteen-year-oldinapparentgoodhealth,sittingpassively,neithertensenoranxious,butavoidinglookinghimintheeyes.
"Hisvoiceissoft,"Dr.Brownwroteinhisnotes,"withlittlemodulation,almosttrancelike."
Billystaredathim.
"Whatareyourfeelings?"Brownaskedhim.
"Likeadreamthatcomesandgoes.Mydadhatesme.Ihearhimscreaming.Ihavearedlightinmyroom.Iseeagardenandaroad—flowers,water,treesandnobodytheretoyellatme.Iseelotsofthingsthataren’treal.There’sadoorwithallthelocksonit,andsomeoneispoundingtogetout.Iseeawomanfallingdown,andsuddenlyshe’sturningintoapileofmetalandIcan’treachher.Hey,I’mtheonlykidwhocantakeatripwithoutLSD."
