           Thepain,onthatlastawfulcontraction,wasimpossibletobelieveashefelthimselfbeingsqueezed,crushedandpushedthroughthatunyieldingrockgap,hisbonesshattering,hisfleshbecomingsomethingshapelessandsnakelike,andashismouthandruinedheadclearedtheholehebegantoscream,infearandpain.

           Hewondered,ashescreamed,whether,backinthewakingworld,hewasalsoscreamingifhewerescreaminginhissleepbackonthedarkenedbus.

           "Soon,"saidthecracklingvoiceoftheflame,comingfrombehindhim,"theywillfall.Soontheywillfallandthestarpeoplewillmeettheearthpeople.Therewillbeheroesamongthem,andmenwhowillslaymonstersandbringknowledge,butnoneofthemwillbegods.Thisisapoorplaceforgods."
