"Thequarryareallinside,"saidthehalf-familiarvoice."Everyoneinposition?"Acrackleofavoice,half-audiblethrougharadio."Let’smoveinandroundthemallup."
"Whataboutthebigguy?"saidanothervoice.
"Packagehimup,takehimout,"saidthefirstvoice.
Theyputabag-likehoodoverShadow’shead,andboundhiswristsandankleswithtape,andputhiminthebackofatruck,anddrovehimaway.
TherewerenowindowsinthetinyroominwhichtheyhadlockedShadow.Therewasaplasticchair,alightweightfoldingtable,andabucketwithacoveronit,whichservedShadowasamakeshifttoilet.Therewasalsoasix-foot-longstripofyellowfoamonthefloor,andathinblanketwithalong-since-crustedbrownstaininthecenter:bloodorshitorfood,Shadowdidn’tknowanddidn’tcaretoinvestigate.Therewasanakedbulbbehindametalgrillehighintheroom,butnolightswitchthatShadowhadbeenabletofind.Thelightwasalwayson.Therewasnodoorhandleonhissideofthedoor.
