           Tiressquealedonthehighwayandanopencarcameswiftlyintothecamp.Fourmen,armedwithrifles,piledout.Casystoodupandwalkedtothem.

           «Whatthehell’sgoin’onhere?»

           Casysaid,«Iknockedoutyourmanthere.»

           Oneofthearmedmenwenttothedeputy.Hewasconsciousnow,tryingweaklytositup.

           «Nowwhathappenedhere?»

           «Well,"Casysaid,«hegottoughan’Ihit’im,andhestartedshootin’hitawomandowntheline.SoIhit’imagain.»

           «Well,what’dyoudointhefirstplace?»

           «Italkedback,"saidCasy.

           «Getinthatcar.»

           «Sure,"saidCasy,andheclimbedintothebackseatandsatdown.Twomenhelpedthehurtdeputytohisfeet.Hefelthisneckgingerly.Casysaid,«They’sawomandowntherowliketobleedtodeathfromhisbadshootin’.»
