SirHenry,however,seemedprettyfresh,notwithstandinghiswoundontheface,whichmadeeatingdifficultandlaughteranimpossibility,thoughhewassosoreandstiffthathecouldscarcelystir.
Abouteighto’clockwehadavisitfromInfadoos, whoappearedbutlittletheworse—tougholdwarriorthathewas—forhisexertionsinthebattle,althoughheinformedusthathehadbeenupallnight. Hewasdelightedtoseeus,butmuchgrievedatGood’scondition,andshookourhandscordially. Inoticed,however,thatheaddressedSirHenrywithakindofreverence,asthoughheweresomethingmorethanman;and,indeed,asweafterwardsfoundout,thegreatEnglishmanwaslookedonthroughoutKukuanalandasasupernaturalbeing. Noman,thesoldierssaid,couldhavefoughtashefoughtor,attheendofadayofsuchtoilandbloodshed,couldhaveslainTwala, who,inadditiontobeingtheking,wassupposedtobethestrongestwarriorinthecountry,insinglecombat,shearingthroughhisbull-neckatastroke. Indeed,thatstrokebecameproverbialinKukuanaland,andanyextraordinarybloworfeatofstrengthwashenceforthknownas"Incubu’sblow."
