Asfortheheaditself,itwasperfectlybare,andyellowinhue,whileitswrinkledscalpmovedandcontractedlikethehoodofacobra.
Thefiguretowhichthisfearfulcountenancebelonged,acountenancesofearfulindeedthatitcausedashiveroffeartopassthroughusaswegazedonit,stoodstillforamoment. Thensuddenlyitprojectedaskinnyclawarmedwithnailsnearlyaninchlong,andlayingitontheshoulderofTwalatheking,begantospeakinathinandpiercingvoice—
