           Fernwasenchanted.Itrelievedhermindtoknowthatherbabywouldsleepcoveredup,andwouldstaywarm.

           Everymorningafterbreakfast,WilburwalkedouttotheroadwithFernandwaitedwithhertillthebuscame.Shewouldwavegood-byetohim,andhewouldstandandwatchthebusuntilitvanishedaroundaturn.WhileFernwasinschool,Wilburwasshutupinsidehisyard.Butassoonasshegothomeintheafternoon,shewouldtakehimoutandhewouldfollowheraroundtheplace.Ifshewentintothehouse,Wilburwent,too.Ifshewentupstairs,Wilburwouldwaitatthebottomstepuntilshecamedownagain.Ifshetookherdollforawalkinthedollcarriage,Wilburfollowedalong.Sometimes,onthesejourneys,Wilburwouldgettired,andFernwouldpickhimupandputhiminthecarriagealongsidethedoll.Helikedthis.Andifhewasverytired,hewouldclosehiseyesandgotosleepunderthedoll’sblanket.Helookedcutewhenhiseyeswereclosed,becausehislashesweresolong.Thedollwouldclosehereyes,too,andFernwouldwheelthecarriageveryslowlyandsmoothlysoasnottowakeherinfants.
