           “Itwastryingtogetinhere.Itgavemeaterriblefright.Andmyheart-butyouwouldn’tunderstand,yousillyyoungdemon!”Sophiepanted.“Youhaven’tgotaheart.”

           “YesIhave,”Calcifersaid,asproudlyashehadrevealedhisarm.“Downintheglowingpartunderthelog.Anddon’tcallmeyoung.I’magoodmillionyearsolderthanyouare!CanIreducethespeedofthecastlenow?”

           “Onlyifthescarecrow’sgone,”saidSophie.“Hasit?”

           “It’sstillthere,”shesaid.“Hoppingafterus.Gofaster.”

           “Butthatupsetsallmycalculations,”Calciferexplained.“IwasaimingtocirclethehillsandgetbacktowhereMichaelleftusintimetopickhimupthisevening.
