Theonlythingtodo,Sophiedecided,wastoshowHowlthatshewasanexcellentcleaninglady,arealtreasure.Shetiedanoldragroundherwispywhitehair,sherolledthesleevesupherskinnyoldarmsandwrappedanoldtableclothfromthebroomcupboardroundherasanapron.Itwasratherarelieftothinktherewereonlyfourroomstocleaninsteadofawholecastle.Shegrabbedupabucketandbesomandgottowork.
“Whatareyoudoing?”criedMichaelandCalciferinahorrifiedchorus.

Michaellefttheworkbenchandwenttothedoor.SophiepeeredthroughthedustshewasraisingandsawthatthistimeMichaelturnedthesquareknoboverthedoorsothatthesidewithablueblobofpaintonitwasdownward.Thenheopenedthedooronthestreetyousawoutofthewindow.
