           Unfortunately,thenoiseHowlmadewokeMichaelup,andPercival,whowassleepingonthefloorinMichael’sroom.Michaelcamedownstairs,sayingthattheyweresothoroughlyawakethattheymightaswellgooutandgathertheflowersfortheMidsummergarlandswhilethedaywasstillcool.Sophiewasnotsorrytogooutintotheplaceofflowersforonelasttime.Therewasawarm,milkyhazeoutthere,filledwiththescentandhalf-hiddencolors.Sophiethumpedalong,testingthesquashygroundwithherstickandlisteningtothewhirringsandtwittersofthethousandsofbirds,feelingtrulyregretful.Shestrokedamoistsatinlilyandfingeredoneoftheraggedpurpleflowerswithlong,powderystamens.Shelookedbackatthetallblackcastlebreathingthemistbehindthem.Shesighed.

           “Hemadeitmuchbetter,”PercivalremarkedasheputanarmfulofhibiscusintoMichael’sfloatingbath.

           “Whodid?”saidMichael.

           “Howl,”saidPercival.“Therewereonlybushesatfirst,andtheywerequitesmallanddry.”

           “Yourememberbeingherebefore?”Michaelaskedexcitedly.HehadbynomeansgivenuphisideathatPercivalmightbePrinceJustin.

           “IthinkIwasherewiththeWitch,”Percivalsaiddoubtfully.

           Theyfetchedtwobathloadsofflowers.
