Whenwehavepoorvalues—thatis,poorstandardswesetforourselvesandothers—weareessentiallygivingfucksaboutthethingsthatdon’tmatter,thingsthatinfactmakeourlifeworse.Butwhenwechoosebettervalues,weareabletodivertourfuckstosomethingbetter—towardthingsthatmatter,thingsthatimprovethestateofourwell-beingandthatgeneratehappiness,pleasure,andsuccessassideeffects.
This,inanutshell,iswhat“self-improvement”isreallyabout:prioritizingbettervalues,choosingbetterthingstogiveafuckabout.Becausewhenyougivebetterfucks,yougetbetterproblems.Andwhenyougetbetterproblems,yougetabetterlife.
