Thetickettoemotionalhealth,likethattophysicalhealth,comesfromeatingyourveggies—thatis,acceptingtheblandandmundanetruthsoflife:truthssuchas“Youractionsactuallydon’tmatterthatmuchinthegrandschemeofthings”and“Thevastmajorityofyourlifewillbeboringandnotnoteworthy,andthat’sokay.”Thisvegetablecoursewilltastebadatfirst.Verybad.Youwillavoidacceptingit.
Butonceingested,yourbodywillwakeupfeelingmorepotentandmorealive.Afterall,thatconstantpressuretobesomethingamazing,tobethenextbigthing,willbeliftedoffyourback.Thestressandanxietyofalwaysfeelinginadequateandconstantlyneedingtoproveyourselfwilldissipate.Andtheknowledgeandacceptanceofyourownmundaneexistencewillactuallyfreeyoutoaccomplishwhatyoutrulywishtoaccomplish,withoutjudgmentorloftyexpectations.
Youwillhaveagrowingappreciationforlife’sbasicexperiences:thepleasuresofsimplefriendship,creatingsomething,helpingapersoninneed,readingagoodbook,laughingwithsomeoneyoucareabout.
