           Itjustmeansthatyou’renotspecial.

           Often,it’sthisrealization—thatyouandyourproblemsareactuallynotprivilegedintheirseverityorpain—thatisthefirstandmostimportantsteptowardsolvingthem.

           Butforsomereason,itappearsthatmoreandmorepeople,particularlyyoungpeople,areforgettingthis.Numerousprofessorsandeducatorshavenotedalackofemotionalresilienceandanexcessofselfishdemandsintoday’syoungpeople.It’snotuncommonnowforbookstoberemovedfromaclass’scurriculumfornootherreasonthanthattheymadesomeonefeelbad.SpeakersandprofessorsareshouteddownandbannedfromcampusesforinfractionsassimpleassuggestingthatmaybesomeHalloweencostumesreallyaren’tthatoffensive.Schoolcounselorsnotethatmorestudentsthaneverareexhibitingseveresignsofemotionaldistressoverwhatareotherwiserun-of-the-milldailycollegeexperiences,suchasanargumentwitharoommate,orgettingalowgradeinaclass.

           It’sstrangethatinanagewhenwearemoreconnectedthanever,entitlementseemstobeatanall-timehigh.
