Ozmadrewoutasilverwhistlewhichwasattachedtoaslendergoldchainandblewuponthewhistletwoshrillblasts.Thesound,thoughnotharsh,wasverypenetrating,andassoonasitreachedtheearsoftheCowardlyLionandtheHungryTiger,thetwohugebeastsquicklycameboundingtowardthem.OzmaexplainedtothemwhattheWizardwasabouttodo,andtoldthemtokeepquietunlessdangerthreatened.SothetwopowerfulguardiansoftheRulerofOzcrouchedbesidethefountainandwaited.
Dorothyreturnedandsetthecupontheedgeofthefountain.ThentheWizardplacedthehickory-nutbesidethefountainandsaidinasolemnvoice:
"Iwantyoutoresumeyournaturalform,andtobeverythirsty—Pyrzqxgl!"
Inaninstantthereappeared,intheplaceofthehickory-nut,theformofKikiAru,theHyupboy.Heseemedbewildered,atfirst,asiftryingtorememberwhathadhappenedtohimandwhyhewasinthisstrangeplace.Buthewasfacingthefountain,andthebubblingwaterremindedhimthathewasthirsty.WithoutnoticingOzma,theWizardandDorothy,whowerebehindhim,hepickedupthecup,filleditwiththeWaterofOblivion,anddrankittothelastdrop.
Hewasnownolongerthirsty,buthefeltmorebewilderedthanever,fornowhecouldremembernothingatall—notevenhisnameorwherehecamefrom.
