ItwasnotlongbeforeGryphusbeggedformercy.Butbeforebeggingformercy,hehadlustilyroaredforhelp,andhiscrieshadrousedallthefunctionariesoftheprison.Twoturnkeys,aninspector,andthreeorfourguards,madetheirappearanceallatonce,andfoundCorneliusstillusingthestick,withtheknifeunderhisfoot.
