AstoCountTilly,whowasasprudentashewasfirm,hebegantoparleywiththeburghers,undertheprotectionofthecockedpistolsofhisdragoons,explainingtothevalianttownsmen,thathisorderfromtheStatescommandedhimtoguardtheprisonanditsapproacheswiththreecompanies.
“Whereforesuchanorder?Whyguardtheprison?”criedtheOrangists.
