           “Iaskyouwhatcanbeprovedbyyourrecognisingthem?”

           Rosa’sspeechseemedtohavebroughtacertainconvictionintotheheartofVanSystens,andhewasgoingtoanswerherinagentlertone,whenatonceagreatnoisewasheardinthestreet,andloudcheersshookthehouse.

           Andherushedtowardshisanteroom,withoutanylongerheedingRosa,whomheleftinhiscabinet.
